
Of its 15km coast line, 11kms are beaches covered in fine grained sand. The average yearly temp of 18 deg makes sea bathing possible year round.
Thanks to its mild climate and the layout of its landscape, Santa Pola is ideal for most nautical sports and air based pursuits.
Las Salinas is nearby, a marshland area that is protected as a Natural Park and declared an area of special importance for wild birds, including Flamingos and Stilt birds.
Santa Pola's Beaches
A wide range of opportunities are provided by more than 11 kilometres of beaches: on the east, small bays with fine sand and crystalline waters; on the west, shallow beaches perfect for children and adults. In the cape, we find wild unspoiled bays which are not very crowded.
Those beaches located near the city centre provide all the services needed to spend unforgettable days enjoying sun and sea. This includes access for disabled people, wooden walkways, fountains for washing your feet, litter bins, first aid services, buoys, WC, cleaning services, public telephones, rental deck chairs beach umbrellas and chairs, kiosks, bus stops, sports games, nautical areas... Our beaches boast Blue Flags (F.E.E), certified by AENOR according to international regulations in Quality and Environmental Management Systems: ISO 9001 and 14001. This denotes the purity o their waters and sand (analysis carried out by the Generalitat Valenciana), that is to say: beaches suitable for everybody.
Santa Pola del Este Coves
LENGTH: 380 m. SERVICES: semi-urban beach. Santa Pola del Este is a housing development situated between the beach and the mountains. Its development began in 1963, which later received the certification of "Centre of National Tourist Interest".
Santiago Bernabeu Coves
LENGTH: 920 m. SERVICES: Provided with all the same services we can find in an urban beach. In Cala Ill there is an area for the exclusive use of boats, pedalo's, etc, with an entrance and exit channel to the sea clearly marked by means of buoys. These bays are so called because D. Santiago Bernabeu (Chairman of Real Madrid for more than three decades) spent his summer holidays in a house located in the avenue which now hold his name. These rocky coves were regenerated in 1990 with sand which was brought from the sea bed close by.
Cabo de Santa Pola Coves
LENGTH: 830 m. SERVICES: Basic equipment. Kiosks in "Bancal de L'Arena" and "Cala de la Ermita". These are located in a special protected area, with landscape and environment, both highly prized for their merits. "EI Cabo de Santa Pola" 144 m high, is a unique example in Europe of a coral reef from the Miocene era. Bancal de la Arena, situated next to the recreational area of the "Bancal de la Arena ". Cala de la Ermita, situated opposite the Lady of the Rosary Chapel. This cove marks the limit of the Santa Pola municipal area.
Varadero Beach
LENGTH: 475 m. SERVICES: Provided with all the same services found in an urban beach and a sea area provided for pedalos. It boasts a Blue Flag since 1987. Its name comes from the "Varadero" (dry dock) which is next to it. Previously it was called "Playa de los Ingenieros" because the engineers who worked in the dry dock lived in the surrounding area. Moreover, it was the meeting point for the traditional celebration of what is known as "Easter Cake Afternoon".
Levante Beach (accessible beach)
LENGTH: 460 m. SERVICES: Provided with all the same services found in an urban beach and with a sea area provided for peclalo's. It boasts a Blue Flag since 1987 and it was awarded with "the Breaking of Architectural Barriers and Attention to Disabled People" by the Foundation of Environmental Education in Europe (FEEE).
In 1900 the Royal Navy vessel "Theseus" anchored in the bay of Santa Pola together with the English and Scottish astronomical teams commissioned to observe the solar eclipse. Its crew played on the beach a game called "football", while the citizens of Santa Pola watched them with surprise. This is the reason why Santa Pola became the first place in the Valencian Community where this particular sport began and then spread.
La Gola Beach
Concerns a beach where you can only get to on foot from the Playa del Pinet or Tamarit. LENGTH: 1.710 m. SERVICES: basic equipment of a non-urban beach for the need to protect environmental features. There is a demarcated area for practising Kitesurfing. This beach was where the greatest part of the smuggling was carried out after the Civil War.
Lisa Beach
LENGTH: 600 m. SERVICES: Provided with all the same services found in an urban beach. A windsurf school and a nautical area for pedalo's is located here. Building began in Gran Playa and Playa Lisa in the sixties.
Gran Playa Beach (accessible beach)
LENGTH: 1.060 m. SERVICES: Has a nautical area for practising windsurfing and pedalo's. At the beginning of the 19th century Santa Pola became a summer resort for the first time. A great number of sheds made of esparto grass and rushes were located in Gran Playa and Playa Lisa. These sheds were most popular for people who spent their holidays here, most of whom came from Elche. The so termed "Baho de las Sirenas" which was situated in the present harbour, was like a Social Centre for meetings of the richest holiday-makers.
Pinet Beach
Located next to the Salinas Nature Reserve, on the south west side of the Santa Pola municipal area, it is an unspoilt beach which you can only get to on foot. Length: 3.590 m. SERVICES: basic equipment of a non-urban beach for the need to protect environmental features.
Tamarit Beach
LENGTH: 830 m. SERVICES: Provided with all the same services found in an urban beach. It was granted a Blue Flag in 1992. On its western limit we find the old salt quay built in 1897. The wagons pulled by animals and loaded with salt were moved along the rails, once in the harbour, the wagons were unloaded into barges (Gabarras) which carried the salt to the ships anchored in the bay.
Fabulous beaches, 4 minutes walk away and fantastic sea views from the spacious balcony.
